Ms. Canino is the Senior Director of Federal Government Relations at Cigna.
Prior to Cigna, she lead Humana Inc.’s Washington, D.C. office and was the Director of Federal Affairs. Humana is one of the nation’s largest publicly traded health benefits companies, with more than 12 million medical members. She was responsible for coordinating and executing the lobbying strategy for the diversified portfolio of health and wellness products and related services, including Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial and Tricare. Ms. Canino was also Humana’s Political Action Committee (PAC) Treasurer and was responsible for growing and executing Humana PAC dollars. Ms. Canino worked to build relationships and alliances with outside organizations that align with Humana’s health and wellness care strategy for its members. Ms. Canino began working with Humana in January 2009 as a federal lobbyist and was promoted in April 2011 to head their Washington, D.C. office.
Prior to Humana, Ms. Canino worked on Capitol Hill for two United States Senators, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and U.S. Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon. She handled the health care portfolio for both Senators, focusing specifically on Medicare and Medicaid, commercial insurance, global and public health issues.
Ms. Canino received a Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University with a concentration in International Affairs and Spanish. Ms. Canino serves on the board of Running Start, an organization that educates young women about political leadership with the hopes of shaping them into political leaders of tomorrow. She currently resides in Falls Church, Virginia.
