Amy Budner Smith
Amy Smith is a Policy Advisor at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. She has spent more than a decade in Washington, DC providing policy guidance to and advocating on behalf of public, nonprofit, and private organizations before Congress and the Executive Branch. She focuses on developing comprehensive strategic plans to raise her clients’ national profile and has a keen understanding of the budget and appropriations processes. As part of her policy practice, Ms. Smith is committed to her pro bono activities, particularly related to health research funding and civil rights issues.
Before moving to DC, Amy was a Supervisor in the Colorado Office of the State Auditor in Denver, CO. There, she completed reviews of the operations and programs of a variety of state government agencies and universities, from scope development to policy recommendations and legislative changes. Before completing her Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Amy served as a Congressional aide to Rep. Diana DeGette (D – CO), where she was responsible for developing and maintaining community relations, as well as addressing a number of policy issues in the district.
Within the community, Amy served in leadership positions with the Colorado Women’s Health Care Coalition and the Rocky Mountain Riveters in Denver. Currently, she is co-chair of the Women in Government Relations Education Task Force and a member of the Parent Advisory Committee for Heritage Learning Center in the DC area. She also is trained as an Elect Her facilitator.
