Emerging Young Leader Award
Congratulations to Brittany Amano! At the 8th Annual Women to Watch Awards on April 2nd, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard announced that of the five amazing finalists, Brittany Amano won the Emerging Young Leader Award! The finalists had earned the highest number of votes of our fantastic field of semifinalists and then a distinguished committee reviewed their accomplishments and voted for Brittany to win the award. We have been so impressed with all of these young women and are proud of the work they’ve done. We know that they will all go on to do even more great things.
Check out these great photos from their appearance at the Awards!

How did we get to this point?
From November 2013 through January 15th, 2014, we asked: Are you a young woman who dreams of leading in politics? Or do you know one? We wanted everyone to nominate a girl to be recognized as a future leader at Running Start’s 8th Annual Women to Watch Awards!
We received almost 300 nominations of young women with demonstrated leadership ability and a passion to change the world, and have carefully read through all of the nominations and selected the 10 most promising young women as semifinalists. These 10 young women nowhave a chance to get everyone voting so that they can become one of the 5 finalists. Our five finalists will be great role models for their peers, tireless advocates for the causes they care about, and leaders in all areas of their lives.
Five finalists will be selected and one will be chosen to receive our Emerging Young Leader Award. Thanks to our sponsor, PG&E, Running Start will feature the five finalists at our annual Women to Watch Awards in Washington, DC on April 2, 2014. The Finalists will share the stage with four high-powered women leaders who Running Start will also honor. The winner will be announced at the Awards ceremony. Travel and accommodation for each finalist to Washington, DC will be provided.
The finalists will also have a private audience with the other honorees, and will be introduced and have a speaking opportunity at a luncheon featuring one of our most high-profile honorees.
This contest offers a unique opportunity to be recognized as a member of the next generation of emerging leaders, to learn how to drum up support, and to meet some of the most accomplished and fabulous women leaders in the country. The annual awards ceremony draws 400 high level guests including Members of Congress, Administration officials, and the business and media elite.
